Health Information Management Faculty
Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P
Where do you work?
I am the program director and associate professor at the University of Cincinnati (HIA distance learning program)
How long have you been there?
It will be 3 years in November, 2007
What classes do you teach?
Presently, I teach the senior students in their Capstone and Practicum courses
Why did you choose this path in HIM?
Teaching was my first choice of majors in college before I discovered the HIM field. In 1979, I began teaching part-time in the local community college and eventually was hired full-time.
Benefits to being an educator?
I enjoy working with students and making a difference by assisting them with their educational goals. Our program at the University of Cincinnati is delivered via distance education; therefore, students are located across the United States. This educational model provides for a rich learning environment for both students and faculty.
Comments for the international HIM education community.
I look forward to interacting with educators around the world that are committed to HIM education.
